چکیده
We report a general method to design unique type of non-Hermitian electromagnetic double-near-zero index medium by two-dimensional photonic crystal. The synergy nonsymmorphic glide symmetry the lattice, period-doubling unit cell, and perturbation crystal induces phase transition in eigenvalue spectrum. Near Brillouin zone center, such is effectively an anisotropic medium. Along direction interest, real parts its effective permittivity permeability are simultaneously near zero, while imaginary parameters nonzero values with opposite signs, leading positive refractive index. This enables many fascinating applications as angular sensor, coherent perfect absorber, laser.

Two-dimensional photonic crystal polarizer
A novel polarizer made from two-dimensional photonic bandgap materials was demonstrated theoretically. This polarizer is fundamentally different from the conventional ones. It can function in a wide frequency range with high performance and the size can be made very compact, which renders it usefully as a micropolarizer in microoptics.

We show that optical beams propagating in path-averaged zero-index photonic crystal superlattices can have zero phase delay. The nanofabricated superlattices consist of alternating stacks of negative index photonic crystals and positive index homogeneous dielectric media, where the phase differences corresponding to consecutive primary unit cells are measured with integrated Mach-Zehnder interf...
